do I schedule an MRI?

physician orders the MRI, but you have the right to
choose where the study is performed.

2. How
long does an MRI exam typically take?
Most
studies are completed in about 30 minutes. Rarely
do exams last more than an hour.

3. Will
I feel anything during an MRI exam?
No.
Many people find the experience to be quite restful.
You may even listen to your favorite music during
the study. (Feel free to bring a CD or cassette tape
with you).

4. Will
I be getting and injection?
Not
usually. However, certain conditions are better detected
when a small amount of contrast agent is administered.
When needed, this is injected into a vein in
the arm by one of our trained healthcare professionals.

5. How
much radiation will I get from an MRI?
None.
MRI exams do not use radiation.

6. Is
it OK to have an MRI if I'm pregnant?
If
you are pregnant or think you might be, you should
inform the physician ordering the exam as well the
MRI staff. MRI has not been shown to be harmful
to unborn children. Whenever possible, however, the
study is postponed until after delivery.

7. Can
someone stay with me while I am being scanned?
Yes.
There is plenty of room for a friend or family member
to sit next to you, even hold your hand. Please note
that anyone accompaning you into the MRI room will
be subjected to the magnetic field, and therefore
some restrictions apply.

8. Who
interprets the MRI?
All
studies performed at Edmond Open MRI are read by a
Board Certified radiologist from Imaging Associates,
here in Edmond.

9. Who
tells me the results of the MRI?
As
soon as the radiologist has interpreted the study,
a report is sent to your physician, from whom you
will obtain the results.
